CORN MILL & GARI PROCESSING PROJECT – SUSHEN, WESTERN REGION
During the provision of the
Solar Power Electrification Project, the group discovered another pertinent
need in this community, namely the grinding of their “grindablesâ€. It was
discovered that the people produce a lot of cassava which they sell on credit
to traders who come to their village to buy.
When these traders take the cassava away they never come back with the
moneys. Maize and palm kernel, etc. are ground
at a 3-km village. The group therefore
decided to arrest this problem by providing the facility for the entire
community.
Accordingly
an 8 Horse Power Diesel Engine was procured to run both the maize and cassava
grinders. A dehydration system is provided
for dehydrating cassava dough ready for production into gari. A heath and two fryers were provided under a
different shade. The community provided
all manual labours including the provision of timber for the structure that
houses the machines.
